~ hot or cold drink cozy ~

After I posted yesterday about my crocheting slowing down considerably, I decided to peruse Pinterest to get some inspiration.  I came away with an idea for a drink cozy.  Yeah, I know - there's 50 million of them out there, but I needed something fairly simple to crochet to get my creative juices flowing again.

Here it is flat out:

And here it is on a coffee cup:

And here's the pattern:

Materials:
- approximately 1 oz. worsted weight cotton (I used Peaches & Creme)
- I hook
- one elastic hair band
- one 1 1/4" button
- small amount sz. 10 thread

Size:  2 3/4" x 8 1/4" (not including hair band)

Note:  I crochet tight, so you may need to adjust the size of your crochet hook.

Directions:
Row 1:  Join cotton with a sc around the hair band, sc around the hair band 4 more times.  Ch 1, turn.  (5 sc)

Row 2:  2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.  (7 sc)

Row 3:  2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 5 sc,  2 sc in last sc.  Turn.  (9 sc)

Row 4:  (sc, dc) in 1st sc.  *skip next sc, (sc, dc) in next sc.  Repeat from * across.  Turn.

Rows 5 - 29:  Skip 1st dc, (sc, dc) in next sc.  *skip next dc, (sc, dc) in next sc.  Repeat from * across.  Turn.  At end of Row 29, end off.

Weave in all ends.

Sew on button with sz. 10 thread.

When you're finished using your drink cozy - roll it up and put it in your purse.

~ baby blankie 7c - Candy drops ~

~ Candy drops ~

I finally finished this little blankie last night.  I don't know what's been going on lately, but my crocheting has slowed down considerably.  That's really strange for me, but I'm sure it'll pick back up again soon.

This blankie is crocheted with discontinued Red Heart Sparkling and Red Heart Jeweltones yarns.  Both yarns are 4-ply worsted weight acrylics with sparklies.  I used a 'J' hook and it measures 27" x 32".

The little motifs are just 3 rounds of dc:

~~The ch 2's do not count as a st.~~

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with a sl st to 1st dc. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around. Join as before. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in 1st dc, dc in next dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before. End off.

For the joining border, I used white and the flat braid method. The link to that is here:

http://knitting-crochet.wonderhowto.com/how-to/join-granny-squares-with-crochet-flat-brain-joining-233233/

You'll have to watch all 4 videos.

The 1st sc rnd will be an increase rnd with 2 sc in 1st dc, sc in the next 2 dc, 2 sc in the next dc - and so on.  Then you will follow with the connecting chain method.  The circles are connected by 4 loops on each side.

For the little fill-in squares:  I used white and they are the beginning of a granny square, then a round of sc with the corners being (sc, ch 1, sc to the blanket, ch 1, sc) as I go.

It's a very simple pattern that looks very cute when it's done.  :)

Here are more pictures to help you through the joining and the little fill-in square.

Start with your 3 round dc circles -

add 1 increase round of sc.  - 2 sc in the 1st dc, sc in each of next 2 dc - *2 sc in the next dc, sc in each of next 2 dc. Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.

Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, ch 3, skip next sc.  *sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next sc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.  End off.

Now is a good time to weave in the ends.

Following the directions in the video (the link is above) join the 2nd circle by linking only 4 of the loops.  Do that with however many circles you would like to make a strip.

For this demo - I am only doing a block of 4 circles.
When you are finished with your 1st strip, you will now be working on your 2nd strip.  Join your 1st motif of the 2nd strip with 4 loops on the side.  Notice the 2 free loops between the 2 sets of 4 joining loops on the 1st motif of the 1st strip.  They are left open.
Now join your 2nd motif to 4 loops of the 1st motif of the 2nd strip.  You will crochet 2 ch-3 loops, skip 2 loops on the 2nd motif of the 1st strip, join to 4 loops of the 2nd motif on the 1st strip and then finish the ch-3 loops around.

This is what is will look like when you are done.

Ch 4, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2) in the 4th ch from hook.  Join with a sl st to top of ch 3.
Ch 1, sc in the same ch as the joining st, sc in the next 2 dc, (sc, ch 1) in the ch-2 corner space.
Sc around the sc of the joining loop.  Ch 1.
Sc in the ch-2 corner space.
sc in the next 3 dc, (sc, ch 1) in the next ch-2 corner space.
sc around the sc of the joining loop.  Ch 1.
Repeat the last 2 steps 2 more times.

Sc in the ch-2 corner space, join with a sl st to the 1st sc.  End off.

~ an old pattern ~

Here's an old pattern of mine that was published back in the '90's.  It's so simple to crochet and I thought it was a cute thing to make.

The button eyes were glued on and then sewed, but if you prefer you could crochet little circles to sew on.

Here's the link to the pattern:

Have a great day everyone.  :)

~ blooming violet square ~

I sat down and worked up this popcorn square today.  It is inspired by the popcorn square blanket that originated on dottie angel's blog - here is the post:

http://dottieangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/bit-of-lo-and-beholdness-in-shed.html

Everyone liked the blanket so Mille Makes figured out the pattern and posted it here:

http://millemakes.wordpress.com/2011/05/22/something-pretty-the-pattern/

Here's where I need your opinion - since my square is different, but obviously inspired by the dottie angel blanket square, do you think it is alright to post my popcorn square pattern?

~ handlebar tassels ~

I need to fancy up my bike a little so I made handlebar tassels.  I think they're so stinkin' cute.  Ha-ha.  They only took a few minutes to make - and if you want to make a pair, here's how:

What you will need:

- 2 ponytail elastics
- worsted weight acrylic yarns in whatever colors you would like
- an 'I' hook

To make:

Ch 35, sc around the ponytail elastic, ch 35.  End off.

Repeat as many times as you would like.

Now go and wrap these babies around your handlebars just like you would for a ponytail.  I guarantee that they will put a smile on your face.  :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vince told me that mountain bikes are not supposed to be pretty.  Whatever - I don't climb mountains anyway - I only ride up and down the side street with James.
p.s.  Vince found this bike for me at a thrift store for $40.00
~ new purse & my hooks ~
Finished up this bag yesterday - I crocheted it with a 2-ply bulky yarn that I had bought at Michaels.  It was in a mill-ends bag, so I don't know what brand it was.
It's very quick and easy to do - all you need is:
* 6 oz. 2-ply bulky acrylic yarn
* a pair of 7" plastic rings (I bought mine from Ebay)
* two 22" pieces of ribbon
* an 'L' hook
Sc around 1 ring 41 times.  Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat for 32 rows.  At the end of the 32nd row, end off.
Repeat for other ring.
Put wrong sides together and starting at the 8th row on the right side and matching up stitches, whipstitch together all the way around till you get to the 8th row on the left side.  End off.
Weave 1 ribbon through the stitches of the 9th row on the front.
