~ a cupcake hat ~

Materials:

- 4-ply ww acrylic yarn
  = approximately 1 oz. pink
  = approximately 1 oz. brown
  = small amount red
- J hook
- various buttons

Notes:

- ch 2 does not count as a stitch
- I crochet tight so you may want to adjust the size of your crochet hook.

Size:  This little hat fits a toddler.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With pink ch 3, 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with a sl st to 1st hdc. (10 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each hdc around. Join as before. (20 hdc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next hdc. *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 hdc. *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 3 hdc. *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 6: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 4 hdc. *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 4 hdc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnds 7 - 12: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in each hdc around. Join as before. At end of Rnd 12, end off.

==Note: the hdc st basically has 3 loops - the front loop, the back loop, and what I call the side loop. Rnd 13 will be worked in the back loop and the side loop, leaving the front loops unworked.

Rnd 13: Join brown with a sl st to back loop and side loop of 1st hdc. Ch 2, hdc in next st (counts as 1st 2 hdc together), hdc in next 10 hdc. *Hdc next 2 hdc together, hdc in next 10 hdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to 1st hdc.

Rnds 14 - 19: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in each hdc around. Join as before.

Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each hdc around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. End off.

For trim: join pink with a sc in any hdc loop of Rnd 13, 2 hdc in next loop. *Sc in next loop, 2 hdc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. End off.

--with red, make a pom-pom and sew to top of hat.

--sew on buttons randomly.

  6. Debi, this is adorable!! Thanks for sharing your pattern! I have been so terribly busy, I haven't had the time to blog hardly at all lately. I miss it, but try to keep up with my blogging friends as best I can. I have done a little crocheting, but mostly scrapbooking at night. It's something new, and I really have been having fun with it. I just might have to put the papercrafts away for a night or two though, to get my yarns back out, and make this hat! I'll have to see what colors I have! Hmm.. Will my hat be strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla? ~tina
